Railway system in Portugal:

CP or Comboios de Portugal, is the national company of the Rail System. It offers a vast rail network covering the whole mainland of Portugal. It also offers international train services to Vigo, Madrid and Paris. Intercidades – The ‘Intercidades’ or Intercity services covers the Lisbon-Oporto-Guimarães, Lisbon-Guarda, Lisbon- Covilhã, Lisbon-Évora-Beja and Lisbon-Faro routes.


Alfa-Pendular:

Alfa Pendular – It is the fastest and most comfortable rail link  between Lisbon and the Algarve in the south and Lisbon and Oporto in the north.
Inter-Cidades

The ‘Intercidades’ or Intercity services covers the Lisbon-Oporto-Guimarães, Lisbon-Guarda, Lisbon- Covilhã, Lisbon-Évora-Beja and Lisbon-Faro routes.


Underground:

One of the many ways to get in Lisbon is by underground (metro). It’s one of the means of transport fastest by ground. In Lisbon there are 4 lines of metro, and they are:


Blue Line  ​

Amadora Este - Santa Apolónia with a length of about 13 km and 17 stations.


Yellow Line

Odivelas - Rato with a length of about 11 km and 13 stations


Green Line

Telheiras - Cais do Sodré with a length of about 9 km and 13 stations.


Red Line

S. Sebastião - Oriente with a length of about 7 km and 9 stations.

The metro network it is very extensive and the prices are very economic. In this year the prices changed, but here is the actual prices, if you would like to travel by metro and the metro network in Lisbon.


Working hours:

• Opening: 06h 30m. The first train leaves at 06h 30m from the terminal stations of each line.

• Closing: 01h 00m. The last train leaves at 01h 00m from the terminal stations of each line.


Carris:

Lisbon and the surrounding area have a wide network of yellow buses, electric trams and trolleybuses which cover the entire city. The main operator in Lisbon is Carris.


Lisbon Trams :

The electric tram network is run by Carris and covers the older parts of the city and the downtown areas (Alfama, Baixa Chiado, Cais do Sodré).

The Bus

In Portugal exists two companies of public transports: Carris and Ródoviária de Lisboa.

The Glória Furnicular

The Glória Furnicular is a funicular that links Baixa (Restauradores Square) with Bairro Alto (Jardim / Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara), in Lisbon. It is operated by Carris. The Glória Funicular was opened to the public on October 24th, 1885. At first it was designed as a water-powered system, then in 1886 it was replaced by a steam-power one, and finally in 1915 it was electrified. In 2002 it was designated a National Monument to.

Monday to Thursday: 7:00h – 24:00h
Friday: 7:00h – 24:30h
Saturday: 8:30h – 24:30h
Sunday and Holidays: 9:00h – 24:00h
